Posted By Doreen Geoghegan Are there Safety Policy Statments available for Government Departments in the UK? As employers they have the same requirements as any employer to undertake risk assessments etc..... it seems they devolve their responsibility (in Ireland). Are they as a Government Department 'exempt' from the laws they enforce on others?

Posted By steven bentham Only if you have Crown Immunity are you excempt from HASAWA. I am an inspector and we are prosecuting via the Attorney General our own Department under the Act for breach of Section 2 & Section 2. Its still in Court so we are still awaiting the outcome.

Posted By Phil.D.Baptiste Doreen, No but, some have Crown Immunity, do as you please some have Crown Immunity from some sections of Acts, Regs etc. do as you please for this section, and, Some are subject to Crown Censure, more commonly known as 'slapped wrists'. Having said that, there is a move away from the top two. The Dept. I work for gets 'guidance' from central but has to produce a 'local' policy and procedures....(which is why I am now reviewing/revising the policy here with a fine tooth comb)....however, this results in lots of satalites all doing their own thing in their own way and reinventing wheels....we now have 52 types, my favourite being the one that only goes backwards....This is quite normal for Government Dept's Philby

Posted By Doreen Geoghegan Steven - that is great news! I work in the Education sector and we are drip fed money.... and have to 'make do' with little resources and then when we get large budgets our limited infrastructure cannot cope with complying with legislation and safely administering the money.
