Posted By keithb Afternoon everyone, this my first post and apologies for asking a very bland question. Does anyone know where i may be able to find any information on the amount of accidents involving kettles in the workplace, over the course of a year?

Posted By Frank Hallett You might try the HSE and Local Authorities. Possibly PoSPA may help; and the manufacturers should be able to but I doubt that they will for fear or bad press.
It is certainly and odd question, would you like to provide a little more info as to why you ask it? It may help.

Posted By Merv Newman I think it is a very good question to ask. Many, many offices, shops and other workplaces will have their own kettle, often supplied by employees at their own expense. Very little thought is ever given to the safe siting of kettles, extraction of the steam or vapour they produce or to their stability. I can't immediately provide any source of statistics but I can visualise a number of accident burn/scald scenarios.
Somewhere in the archives I have a photo of a window totally cracked by the steam generated by a wrongly directed kettle. It was shown to me as "an amusing little feature of our mess room"
