On a personal note, a friend of mine has just applied for the police force. He was refused 4 yrs ago due to him suffering from epilepsey 13 years ago. With the application of the DDA to the Police service recruitment process. I have been asked by him to try and find out if he will pass through the medical requirements as he has not suffered from this condition for 13 years.
Hopefully, if someone here is an expert on the DDA and I can provide him with some guidelines, it may get me off a speeding ticket in the future!!!
Thanks in advance for your contributions.
Best Regards
Seth

An adequate answer to this question requires a task analysis of the work of a police officer, as a basis for hazard analysis and risk assessment.
He needs to bear in mind that this may be a situation in which an employer can document a risk assessment as the basis for deciding that even with 'reasonable adjustments' the risks to the employee and to the public may not be justifiable - a case the employer can make to a Tribunal if rejection is challenged.
To help him weigh up the odds, recommend that he downloads the Employment and Occupation Code of Practice from the website of the Disability Rights Commission, www.drc.org.uk.
