If they are an employer then the usual Health & Safety at Work Act requirements and all the regs apply. Have a look at Health & Safety for Charity and Voluntary workers (HSE books) for good general guidance in working with volunteers in community activities. Generally speaking you should regard your volunteers as employees for H&S purposes; there is case law which suggests that this is required. There are probably special requirements (not directly under H&S law) for working with children, but I don't and never have done so I don't know, John
