Posted By A Cathro Hi, Can anyone help me with information on the health and safety requirements of an after school primary club. As far as I know some of the staff are council employees but the majority are parents who work there on a voluntary basis and who have been through the usual police check. Are there regs that do/don't apply to this type of organisation.

Posted By J Knight Eeyup, First of all, who is running the club; is it the school, the community centre, a parents group or whoever? If they are an employer then the usual Health & Safety at Work Act requirements and all the regs apply. Have a look at Health & Safety for Charity and Voluntary workers (HSE books) for good general guidance in working with volunteers in community activities. Generally speaking you should regard your volunteers as employees for H&S purposes; there is case law which suggests that this is required. There are probably special requirements (not directly under H&S law) for working with children, but I don't and never have done so I don't know, John

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Well there is the whole CRB Check thing... Have all your volunteers been police checked? Or has a decision been made that only the Local Authority staff need to be checked & that other volunteers must always be accompanied?
