Can anyone help with the recommended type of fluorescent tube for office environments? At the moment we are using daylight tubes but our supplier says that ordinary tubes are ok (they give of a more yellow light).
Any help gratefully received.
Bob
Ps. I have got a copy of HSG 38 but it’s as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Is there any particular reason why you are using daylight tubes? Being a bluer light, these can appear cold to some people; hence why most tubes are yellower or redder.

Depending upon the number and type of light fittings you could try a mix of both types. This approach worked well in a large avionic workshop that I used to work in.

Robert,
The type of tube used has limited bearing on successful lighting installations for offices.
I would suggest you get hold of CIBSE Lighting Guide 3 (LG3:1996 The visual environment for display screen use) and 2001 addendum. This goes into more technical detail regarding selection of luminance units, luminance limit calculations, etc.
Unfortunately, you may need an M&E expert to assist with calculations and design.
