Posted By Marcus Pereira I'm putting together an internal website for H&S and cannot decide on what logo represents H&S best! We are an 'office' environment with big emphasis on worker friendly policies. Get you creative heads on and give me some ideas. Thanks in advance Marcus

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Marcus, Have you tried the Microsoft Clipart Website for ideas? Can't think of any sensible office related suggestions at the moment. A consultant wearing hard hat & hi-vis over a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches did spring to mind (probably exactly the opposite image to the one you want to project). Also a skull & crossbones (too HR?) White cross on green background (bit first aid-ish?) I'll have a think...

Posted By Brian John Abbs How about and anchor? Representing security and safety etc. But that's just my opinion.

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Any luck yet Marcus? I brainstormed our Marketing dept at lunchtime (rude comments on the Ants thread not withstanding). I asked them "When I say health & safety, what is the first thing you picture?" They came up with the following ideas: "Bright colours" (red, yellow, green, blue & orange as per regulation colours). "Safety Signs". "Tidy workstation" (I think they meant the line drawing in Working with VDU's) "That green poster thingy" (Health & Safety Law - What You Should Know) "Hard hats" (in an office?) "Fire Extinguishers" - Overall, I wasn't that inspired by their responses

Posted By Richie In my oppinion a positive emphasis should be portrayed. Therefore something like two sharp-dressed managers shaking hands, or the lightbulb signifying 'an idea' may be appropriate. A sunrise signifies a new dawn = new start. I could go on, but what I would definitely say is steer clear of the 'safety inspector' type image or vexated image. It would start you off on the wrong foot completely. People need to view you as a source of solutions, not a bunch of trappers. Richie.

Posted By Rob Malcolm First aid is applicable to all environments. PPE is the ultimate pictogram and the hard hat image is ideal for construction etc. As you are an office based environment I would consider the 3 main risks involved in that field namely: • Muscular skeletal disorders • Stress & • Eye strain Remember its not just health & safety, consider welfare as well especially in an office environment where health & welfare such as suitable facilities i.e washrooms/restrooms, environmental issues etc & personal issues such as backache, work pressures and repetition of VDU use are all applicable to the DSE Regs. A good one for stress would be a silhouette of a torso with its head in its hands, possibly with another torso with its hand on the first one's shoulder consoling it. OR h+S The h could be in the shape of a chair while the + sign could be a white cross on a green background (as is the pictogram on a first aid box) followed by an S that has an arrowhead on the bottom end of it to represent a fire exit sign. Wish I could draw this for you so you could see my example. I just tried it and it’s not bad. Always new my art A level would come in use some day. You would obviously require someone to design this for you. promise you I’m not touting for business. All the best Rob Malcolm

Posted By Marcus Pereira Thanks to all that have replied so far - I'm working through the ideas and will scribble a few down for the H&S group to view. Thanks again, Marcus. If you have a sudden brainwave - send it along!

Posted By Mark Talbot Well why not h+s in a clear, crisp font, green on white [or white on green] ? For all of the good suggestions about areas of action, our main tool and ambition is communication. Hence simple, clear, crisp logo. Green and white are used for escape signage and first aid, but are also used for trust, calm, and cleanliness in advertising - depending on the shades. Any help? Mark
