Posted By Vincent Hearn Everyone, Advice Required Please, What is the best way to dispose of empty containers that contained COSHH items (as labelled under CHIP)? I am talking specifically about cleaners' containers, hair and beauty products, pesticide containers etc that are metal or plastic. As they are empty or with minimal residue, can I dispose of them in the "normal bins" or do they require environmental disposal? Obviously at home, the hair & beauty items go in the bin but these items are used at work hence we have a statutory requirement to comply. I welcome any comment

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Vincent If the containers are empty (and clean) they can be disposed of as normal controlled waste although you should deface or remove the labels to make it clear that they are no longer relevant. If the containers still hold residues, they may need to be disposed of as special waste. Consult the Environment Agency for more detailed advice. Paul

Posted By Mark Eden They are classified as hazardous waste and must be disposed of accordingly, it's going to cost you !

Posted By Bev Agree with previous response. If the containers are nominally empty - general waste (normal waste). If you want to dispose of anything that still has some of the contents, eg if you clear out old products and half used items - special waste.
