Posted By Raiz Beig We have hotwork activities with gas hoses and welding cables all around. We have some fire cases as a result of gas leaks from hoses ignited by hot spatters. Now, what is the safest way to protect these hoses? We are moving hoses and cables from the hotwork area wherever possible to minimise the damage to them. But this always is not feasible and practicable as spatters scatter all around after hitting the concrete floor and impinge on these hoses and cables. Do anyone use fire blankets to cover gas hoses exposed to welding spatters? I have seen fire blankets kept over gas cylinder valves and wooden floors/scaffolds during welding, but not on gas hoses and cables.

Posted By Merv Newman Raiz, never actually seen it in practice, but have seen photos of welding hoses burnt through - bad enough if its the oxygen, extremely dangerous if it is the acetylene line. Sounds like a good idea if you can make it easy for the welders to do. I'm sure our colleagues or BOC will have better/other ideas. Tell me, do your welders take most of their clothes off in hot weather ?
