I have been tasked with validating assessent techniques for manual handling issues.
I have had access to Croner Industrial H&S, the MAC tool and other techniques for example as provided by a MH course provider.
Obviosuly all have benefits and drawback, my main question relates to the need to assess the risk of ULD's. There appears to be a very fuzzy line between the two issues.
Does any one have any views on this as to whether the two can be easily combined or know of an assesment techinique that covers all? Many points are equally applicable to both assesments, am I just better off developing my own combining the best out of each method?

I would most strongly suggest that you draw from the tools available and produce your own to match the client needs.
The fuzzy line that you mention arises because so many people forget that the primary response of the employer to a "hazardous manual handling activity" should be to removeit; and, if that's not possible to mitigate or minimise it. It's only at this stage does the need for the formal risk assessment arise.
