We have a new employee who is a DSE user and has a visual impairment called congenital nystagmus.
As I know nothing about the condition, what support will they need?
Any good sources of information?
Thanks in advance,
Richard.

Richard
Congenital Nystagmus is a condition, which affects the eye muscle (involuntary eye movement).
Those having this condition may or may not have in addition to the nystagmus, a visual impairment.
Areas to consider would be a larger monitor, clear graphics, zoom text if the person has a visual impairment as well as the nystagmus. Last but not least, more frequent breaks away from the computer to reduce obvious eyestrain, headaches and fatigue.
As well as the above, and it has been said many times before on the site, include the person in your assessment – they know their own condition and how it affects them better than anyone else.
Hope the above helps.
Kind regards
David B

Thanks folks (and to Andy who replied directly).
The larger monitor occurred to me as they have increased the size of the fonts on the computer but now have to scroll constantly to work on a document.
I will sit down with them and do the risk assessment and then monitor the situation closely till we acheive a suitable working environment.
Cheers,
Richard.
