Posted By Gill Reavley Does anyone know is there is an equivalent to the NEBOSH qualification in the USA? The closest I have come up with is training provided by the Association of Safety Professionals but would appreciate some feedback on this training and its recognition in the safety world. Many thanks, Gill

Posted By Terry Reading Gill The equivalent body to IOSH in the US is the ASSE (Ammerican Society of Safety Engineers). They also conduct professional training to qualify persons for membership grades. Their website is - www.asse.org. Hope this helps. T

Posted By Gill Reavley Thanks guys for the feedback, I'll look further into the info you have provided but on the surface it doesn't appear to fit the bill. We are after a good broad base course for someone new to a Health and Safety role and the info provided in the link below looked hopeful. http://www.naspweb.com/safety_manager_trainer.html The ASP Safety fundamentals course recommended by ASSE and BCSP looks less specific and more angled towards managing big companies (we're still small but growing). I appreciate your leads though. Gill

Posted By Hazel Harvey Gill, The Associate Safety Professional course would be of a similar level to a NEBOSH Certificate although because the Americans approach safety in a slightly different way to ourselves as they see it as more of an engineering discipline rather than the risk based approach we favour. The Board of Safety Professionals (BCSP) is the registration body for Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) and does not have members like IOSH whilst the ASSE is a membership body promoting safety as a discipline. IOSH actually does both. Our President will be signing a Memorandum of Association with the BCSP at the ASSE conference in a couple of weeks. This will mean that CMIOSH (in our new structure) will be able to apply for CSP registration after undertaking their comprehensive practice exam and CSP will be able to become CMIOSH after taking our new open exam which is currently under development for IPD. The ASP would be more like our new TechIOSH category. This will come into place following the introduction of the new IOSH membership structure in November so no applications yet please. There is more info. on the revised IOSH structure in competent to the core on the home page of this site.
