Can anyone give a clear explanation of the difference between an ergonomic and a risk assessment?
Thanks

An ergonomic assessment if carried out by an ergonomist will focus on both the physical and cognitive parts of the task, as well as the work set-up. The idea is to fit the task to the person and the assessment will work out whether the task represents any psycho-social hazards, physiological hazards, biomechanical hazards and so forth. Having identified these hazards, which can be ranked according to urgency, the ergonomists report can advise on how the task/workplace can be redesigned to eradicate or reduce the hazard.
A risk assessment on the other hand can be carried out by anybody from a nominated person with a checklist ticking boxes in order to meet basic legislative compliance, to a person that will carry out a specific indepth analysis of what risk a particular hazard or set of hazards represent to a worker or group of workets etc. This type of assessment can be either quantitative or qualitative. This assessment may also explain what the risk is but does offer a solution.
That's it

Is this a trick question? If you mean an ergonomic risk assessment, there isn't a difference. It's just a risk assessment that looks at ergonomic issues specifically.
