Beware 'helpful' waste contractors offering to register your company as a hazardous waste producer for a fee.. given that an online registration (for one premises) takes 5 mins and costs £18 - a charge of £75 seems a little excessive! I know of one national waste contractor who is not offering to register its customers - but is automatically registering them (and invoicing at £49) unless they confirm in writing that they have already registered or are exempt from registration. They have given their customers 2 weeks to do this - glad I wasn't on my summer holiday, the letter would have remained unopened until after the deadline! We're lucky in that we have an EHS function aware of the requirements - I wonder how many businesses out there have agreed to these undue charges with relief?

We've had several offers from waste companies - some that we do business with and some that we don't. Prices ranged from £88 to £45 per site - I did 5 sites for £90 online myself last week in about 10 minutes.
I don't think invoicing you for a service you hadn't agreed to would stand up, but it might then not be possible to register yourself if someone had already made a reistration in your name?
The 2 weeks thing is a bit rich since registration isn't compulsory until mid-July!

SEPA do not require scottish companies to register and do not have plans in the near future (just spoke to our local office) commercially, as long as waste is correctly classified and removed by a carrier that is lisenced and approved to carry that waste, waste transfer notes are duly completed and signed then that is all that is needed regarding the removal of hazardous waste.
Interestingly I asked the EA about Scottish waste being removed from premises in Scotland by an English waste carrier and taking it over the border for disposal into England, the Scottish company still does not require registering because the waste was generated in Scotland and fall within the requirements and remit of SEPA.
