I am looking for articles on the above.
I am of the opinion that in this day of Absense Management the real causation of the increase is due to unhygienic facilities or our colleagues not washing their hands afterwards, then despite anyones best efforts we still use the same handle to open the toilet door.
Is there any link between bacterial infection and the accident book from the use of the common garden workplace latrine? If there is I would much appreciate a comment copy or direction.
Regards

Good morning Patrick.
I'm intrigued by the fact that this is the first time [to my knowledge] that such a topic has been explored in this context. Unfortunately I have no info that would help you; but I will certainly tag this thread as I shall look for any useful info.

El Nino does not fully understand your last question re- the accident book. Could you explain?
I am sure you are correct - people will pick up bugs from each other if people don't wash their hands etc. Not that I make a habit of hanging around in the gents, but I have noticed many of my fellow users not washing their hands or simply running them for the briefest time under the taps.
They then wander off to the canteen or the coffee machines.

Lets keep things in perspective, do you really think that this is a "significant risk" ?

In this case I think it is a significant risk. Without going in to details, hands can become quite heavily contaminated. Which can rapidly transfer to door handles. Or taps. (my flesh is just beginning to crawl a bit)
Did see in the sunday times about two weeks ago an article which mentioned a young boy found sobbing in the school toilets; he had washed his hands but could not then bring himself to use the door handle.
