Posted By James Lawrence Does anyone have any policies on hot desking within the DSE regs. One other concern we have personnel who will be potentially using head sets and microphones .... the only different these are not normal call centre type headsets but commentry type you see on the football!! How are policies on using such equipment for hygiene managed? This is all part of our new digital news room and incorporating potential journalists to become news desk editor cutters, thus adding voice to picture. Look forward to any reply J

Posted By Cr8r James, I don't know what sort of headsets you mean, but depending on what they are like, two options: 1. Issue a headset to each user. They unplug it at end of shift and store it somewhere. If this is not practical: 2. Issue the plug bits that contact the ears to each user. This depends on what the headphones are like and is not as preferable as issue one but I have seen this done in different places. Personnally, I would be happiest with option one.

Posted By Frank Hallett Good evening James The sharing of headsets & microphones [in any way] will exacerbate [good word for a Monday] the existing hygiene problems considerably. If it's not possible [cost etc] to provide individual mics, then the sponge bit should be disposable and actually disposed of as each user changes. The same principal should be applied to the earphones. And, all parts should be wiped down with a hygienic wipe. Even if it is possiblt to provide individual equipment, you will still require specific hygiene procedures; it's absolutely amazing the things that can grow on a sponge ear insert or cover.
