What do they all have in common? Well according to the Dip 4 syllabus major incidents took place there but can I find details of any of them on the internet? Can I h**k.
So can anyone cast their minds back and recall these events - if you have info on them them that would be great if not a general idea what as to what actually happened would be really helpful so that I can make my search on Google more precise.
The only clues I have the from the syllabus are:
- Brent Cross, some kind of faliure mode with work equipment. No date.
- Littlebrook D which I have found out is a power station near Dartford but what happened there? No date.
- San Carlos (1978) a fire and/or explosion occured.
Thanks and have a good weekend.
Jennifer

I think you will find there was an accident at Littlebrook D in the late 70’s and it involved a hoist.

Brent cross 20 June 1964 - theres a report in Jeremy Stranks "safety Technology" isbn0273622234.
Littlebrook - hoist failure in a lift shaft in january 1978 - theres an HSE report which should be widely available. Ask , your local library or its available online from some safety sites such as TIOneStop - but its a copyright document so you'll need a subscription

I cannot remember all the details but the accident at Brent Cross was in the 1950's (I think). It involved a crane failure. It followed a change in Road Transport regulations which limited the length of overhang of crane sections transported by lorry. The sections of an existing crane were shortened to comply with the transport regulations. Subsequently the connections between the various crane sections were modified. The crane was erected and was lifting components of another crane when one of the modified sections failed and the load (or the crane) I forget which fell onto a coach. The Factory Inspectorate (as was) investigated and a report was published. This was used as a case study at Aston Uni for the post-grad diploma in the mid 1990's. Hope this helps.

The Brent Cross incident involved the collapse of a mobile crane operating alongside the North Circular Road on 20th June 1964.
You will find details on pp 19-21 of my book "Safety Technology".
Best wishes,
Jeremy Stranks
