Posted By Brian John Abbs I'm about to run a series of training sessions for designers on cable strikes. I've been told about the HSE Alive or Dead video from the HSE, but I am reluctant to spend £75 on a video that even the HSE catalogue describes as "Old and dated". Has anyone got a copy they are willing to loan so I can see if it's worth the investment please? If not, can anyone reccomend a training video that has a few bangs and sparks in it?

Posted By Ron Hunter You could try Scottish Power for a copy of their "Lifelines" video - we got these for nowt at seminars they ran (maybe electricity provider in your area has similar?). Or try CITB Cat & Genny Training video.

Posted By Chris Pope You are referring to a golden oldie here. It has the edge on more modern films due to its entertainment value !! It does have a few genuine testimonials from which lessons can be learned - but the guys on the film do remind me of people I worked with on site in the early 70s. One such lesson concerns a pipe stringing exercise where the labourer witnessed the death of the driver who he believes he warned of the overhead cable, but if you listen carefully you will realise that he actually failed to communicate the risk I would mourn its demise although it is dated I haven't seen any other with so much to learn from. Why don't you ask your local friendly HSE inspector if he or she have one they could lend you ?
