Posted By Simon Carrier Good day one and all We have been requested by our customer to in an new UPS on top of a building. I suggested that we should ascertain the weight loading of the roof. The customer has replied and has indicated that they do not know the weight loading for the roof. My question is should we request a survey to ascertain the loading limit in case the load falls. The roof already has a UPS so it should be able to take the new UPS when lowered correctly, just a bit concerned should the load fall, for whatever reason. Any advice would be appreciated.

Posted By Lynchy Simon Put yourself in the position of someone who, after the roof has collapsed due to overloading, has to expalin to the HSE why (1) There was no Structural Engineer inlvolved and (2) Why the planned lifting assessment required under LOLER failed to identify the risk of collapse due to possible overloading / shock loading. And another thing - what if people are stood on the roof when it collapses?? Get a survey - no argument Lynchy NB Does the client not want to pay for it then??
