I have a client who is insisting on installing a double socket bordering a sink in a restaurant kitchen, I know the regs used to be no closer than one metre, would perchance some kind expert in this field illuminate (no pun intended) me with the current regulations in respect to electric socket placement in the location I suggest
I am in your debt for the clarification to my question.

Can your client use a waterproof wall socket with the front face that closes down over the plug. There is a rubber seal around the front face and water cannot get in unless they are very determined to get it in.
I've seen this done before.

Evening,
Bit late posting, however some regulations
to back up the previous posts;
Don't know about elsewhere, but the recent
Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 require
compliance with BS7671:2001. These wiring
regulations refer to avoiding mutually
detrimental influences amongst others factors.

The NICEIC offer the 300mm separation as guidance,
but as usual it would boil down to explaining to
the Sheriff why you designed/installed/instructed
the location of a socket outlet where an incident
arose subsequently.
