Posted By Debby Clements Hi All I wonder if I may call for assistance. A very good friend is a small electrical contractor and has been tasked by a principal contractor in the construction industry to provide evidence of having given his 5 directly employed staff with a corporate construction related safety induction and a certificate of competence. I have a cert of competence, here comes the but, I do not have the safety induction either in power point presentation or tool box talk training package. I loathe re-inventing the wheel and wonder if anyone out there has a current basic safety induction from a contractors perspective. Many thanks - Debby

Posted By Raymond Rapp Debby It is not unusual for requests of this nature from construction orientated companies in order to show that those working on site are 'competent' to do so. There may be generic type toolbox induction packs available. Ideally a bespoke tool box talk should be provided taking into account the salient hazards and risks associated with actual work. Otherwise health and safety is just reduced to a meaningless 'paper safety' exercise. Training certification can be provided by the CITB such as the CSCS scheme, which should provide adequate proof of construction safety awareness and competence. Regards Ray

Posted By steven bentham CITB sell a good publication 'Tool Box Talks' which should give you the basics. My advice is to sit down with the 'men/women' and talk about the work they intend to do. Ideally train the foreman to be able to deliver the talks.
