Posted By Dave Adams MIOSH The definition I am looking for is not a COSHH / CHIP definition but more to do with transport / storage. We are carrying out an exercise to figure out the level of compliance with legislation (ultimately looking at 18001) - I am in particular looking at Dangerous Substances (Notification and Marking of Sites) Regulations 1990. This wonderful set of regulations tells us that if there are more than 25 tonnes of dangerous substances on site we have to notify the authorities and apply warning signs. The regs (off t'internet) give the following definitions: Interpretation 2.-(1) In these Regulations unless the context otherwise requires- "the 1984 Regulations" means the Classification, Packaging and Labelling of Dangerous Substances Regulations 1984; "dangerous substance" means any substance which is dangerous for conveyance within the meaning of the 1984 Regulations, and any reference to "dangerous substances" (except in Regulation 6 (5)) includes a reference to one dangerous substance; Helpfully, these '1984 regs' no longer exist, are not available on the OPSI website and have been replaced with The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2004 (SI 2004/568), known in short as the Carriage Regulations. This then refers to a section of ADR which is no use either. Are there any helpful DGSA's out there? I am losing the will to live and if I had any hair left I would of pulled it all out!

Posted By Heather Collins Dave The "dangerous" definition you want from the old CPLRegs has been continued in the latest incarnation of CHIP not the transport regs. I suggest you look there. Heather
