I am pleased to announce that after five years of study and hard work I have finally qualified and been admitted to the role of solicitors in England and Wales.
I am not sure, but I think I am the first degree qualified health and safety practitioner to qualify as a solicitor. If anybody out there knows of another, I would love to hear from you/them.

Congratulations David - no mean feat but one which should add a lot of value to your career and hopefully IOSH might be able to get a wee bit of that expertise from time to time! Have you or have you thought of contributing to any of the IOSH Committees such as one of the 14 Groups? Even a small input from someone like you could be valuable and would help to build a stronger relationship between the legal profession and IOSH. I will be happy to answer any queries you might have have on this.
Best wishes, George

Congratulations, David.
A chap called Kevin Osborne, now with Pinsent Masons, is also dual-qualified in the same way

George,
I have a limited amount of time available and I am already the press officer for the Yorkshire branch, but if you can suggest any other position that would not take up too much of my time, I would be happy to consider it.
Regards.
David

That's great and i'll bet a real help to Yorkshire Branch! Are you linked with a Group? If not your thoughts on the Groups and their variety would be useful to us. mamny Branches have sub Groups and dedicated events for them but more in-Branch reps to help cross fertilise their work is always useful to them. I Chair the SGMC so have an interest in the best ways to assist the development of Groups - perhaps we should have one that represents the interests of people like you!
Anyone can join a Group and if you talk the committee of to one of your choice, there may be some very interested in your skills. Have a read of the SG webpages to learn more or come back to me if interested. PS - if your Branch needs a talk on 'safety challenges in metal recycling', give me a call!

Regards, George
