Posted By Lumpy We are a large engineering company and have opticians visit the site on a regular basis to undertake eye examinations and provide prescription eye protection where necessary. Quite a few of our employees have Bifocal safety glasses and I am aware of no specific issues. However, some people don't get on with Bifocals, and so they end up with two pairs of glasses which the change as and when necessary. This does expose them to risk while they change, but this is at an acceptable level. Bottom line, Bifocals are acceptable, but should not be forced on people who prefer two separate pairs. Lumpy.

Posted By Richard Mathews I don’t see why not (no pun intended). I wear bi-focal and vari-focal specs and have no problems but like anything else they take some getting used to and do have certain limitations, in my opinion. But if the wearer, as in my case, is aware of the limitations then it is quite easy to adapt. Richard

Posted By Lynne Ratcliffe Take advice of optician. If the employee already wears bi-focals fine. We do not pay for them to get them to 'see' (absolutely no pun) if they can get on with them. Varifocals ditto however not on cranes! or at height at the area that is transitional is not good for accurate feet (only with varifocals).
