Posted By William Sweeting I have just started work for a new company as H & S manager. I am having problems with operators turning the tops of their gloves over. I have issued a safety buletin to try to put an end to this practice but it seems to be in the site culture. Any sugestions? Thanks for your help

Posted By Saracen10 Have you asked the question why they are turning down the tops of the gloves; is it trendy, are there user problems i.e. more comfy turning them down – are they the right glove for the task? Hit the message home by highlighting the importance of wearing the gloves (you should have done this in your Safety Bulletin). Get managers on board your campaign by leading by example – wearing the gloves the right way… include popular and key figures within the workforce – the ones that other employees look up to e.g. Union reps, Safety reps etc… Then, if after all your efforts have failed, take offenders down the disciplinary route; using the HSW Act and Regs to highlight their responsibilities as employees. I’d include the unions if you have them, as their influences work for both sides. Good luck with this one. Saracen10.
