Hi All,
Have any of you any experience of Humidity controlled rooms.
A room where personnel are required to work with a product that has to be made in a low humidity (ie dry) room. Working in such a room leads to complaints of dry eyes and so on.
Some people have been prescribed eye drops from their Doctor but at £6 a prescription, is this fair? Does the employer have a duty of care?
(Yes but..)
Should the employer contribute to the costs of such a prescription as it is work related?
Is there any way of ensuring the product can still be made but with no adverse effect on the people working in the area?
For the techies the RH is around 30 - 40 and the temperature held between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
Your thoughts please.

40RH isnt everso dry, under 35 gets uncomfortable for me. QA metrology rooms and labs are often in this region. I have worked in both low-RH environments (labs) and those designed to keep RH up, for static protection in electronics manufacture. Welfare regs don't refer to RH, only to temperature and "fresh" air. You'd need to seek Occ Health advise as to whether your RH was unacceptable, but it doesn't sound much dryer than my (infuriatingly) air-conned office, which hovers around 35%.
