Does anyone out their use aluminium ladders in the construction of scaffolding on petrochemical sites? We have had a few failures with wooden ladders due to manufactured quality/ rot and were looking at aluminium as alternative. However there seems to be a myth that they are banned on plant processing hydrocarbons due to their spark potential. Are ther any scaffolding organisations that can shed any light on this?

Goodness!
The HSE must be supporting mass deforestation. 22 pages for that bit of information?

If you strike aluminium against steel you get a spark so do not drop your ladder.
Most scaffold companys use steel ladders these days.
There are many types some heavy, some light, some plastic coated etc.

Have recommended carbon fibre/GRP ladders in the past where potential sparking can be a problem.
