Posted By Karen Jane Bradley I am looking for some guidance on the level of training required to be competent to use a brick saw? Would it be enough for the supplier to carry out a short demonstration on the use of the equipment or are we leaving ourselves wide open here? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Posted By Frank Hallett Good afternoon Karen. You will have to first determine what level of competence that you require from your staff and then provide a training session that meets the need. Don't foget that everything to do with the blade - selection, fitting, inspection, use, maintenance and replacement will require to be specifically covered in the session. If you can provide a short, to the point, written assessment in conjunction with a practical assessment you will have demonstrably gone to full distance in "reasonably Practicable". Of course, you will still have to supervise the operatives as well. Frank Hallett

Posted By Chris Pope Karen It is quite likely that your brick saw could be fitted with an abrasive wheel for cutting steel etc instead of a diamond blade. I have trained users following the same general advice as the old type of abrasive wheel training, including a bit on noise and vibration and Coshh (dust) fuel management and also posture, but it is most important to observe the trainee using the saw & taking care of by standers (who are usually the ones who get injured)
