Posted By Cormac Wondering if anyone can point me to a RA/method statement etc. for the laying of service pipes on construction sites? I need to establish what the normal safeguards are re access/egress to and from the trench and how the pipes are normally laid in the trench (manual handling? mechanical aids?). Trenches are about 2-3 feet deep and 50-100m long, say 2-3 days work to lay and backfill. What provision is normally made to allow employees to traverse trenches? I know the safety controls will be site specific to some degree but just looking at overall picture for the moment. Thanks in advance for your help. It is much appreciated. Cormac

Posted By Chris Pope Cormac you need the HSE books on underground services and "be safe & shore" - see the Construction section in the HSE catalogue for the references.

Posted By Cormac Thanks for that Chris. I've had a look but it's not as detailed as I would like. Cheers Cormac
