Posted By Martin R. Bessant Forum users who log onto the website forums on Thursday will see several changes to the forums area and also on the website as a whole. Many of the changes have been suggested by yourselves directly or put forward by the moderating team, and the website developers have placed a lot of emphasis on trying to make things simpler. You will be able to view all postings as soon as you open a thread, instead of the extra clicking and opening and closing of responses that many of you disliked. Technology has moved on, and it means that we will not see any slowing in the page loading times. The website as a whole has acquired a more upbeat branding image, and the forums have been given a little more colour. As the screen now uses the full width of the browser, each forum page stretches to the full width of the screen. For those who don't like the small type, the text size can be changed using your browser menu. Each latest response now indicates the time of posting as well as the date so new responses can be easily identified. In addition, the number of times a thread has been visited is now listed on the thread line instead of having to roll over a line of icons to find out how many times it has been opened. The information presented on the "not logged in" page is clearer about what is available and what you have to do. "Login" is now at the top of the right hand links instead of at the bottom! "Register" has been renamed "join forums" and once logged in, you have a personalised "Welcome" page to confirm that you are logged in. The "continue" button now actually goes somewhere - to a full list of your own forums. Also it is now easier to find the information about Members Only forums - and to view the latest thread titles before deciding to join or not. It's all there for you once you log in. As Moderators, we now have the ability to temporarily remove a single response without having to remove the whole thread whilst we discuss whether its content breaches the acceptable use guidelines. We can then decide either to remove it permanently or replace it. The terms of use of the website have changed, although some of this has been about bringing together different terms into one place. The Acceptable Use Guidelines have been updated and extended to formalise the way we work as a moderator team. Martin Bessant - Lead Moderator.

Posted By Renny Thomson It can only be an improvement on what is at the moment one of the most cumbersome forums out there - almost as bad as Yahoo Groups :') BTW Do we get smilies? and a spell checker?

Posted By Martin R. Bessant Thanks to the efficiency of our staff at IOSH, this new forum will be going live tomorrow. I regret that a spell checker is not going to be possible. You can always write an item in word, spell check it and then "cut and paste" it into a thread. I hope you enjoy the new facilities. Martin Bessant - Lead Moderator On behalf of the webteam.

Posted By Al.. I like the new design, layout and functionality. As for a spell checker, try installing the Google Toolbar. It comes with a spell checker built into it which can be used for text which is typed into web forms. It works well with the Forum message pages. No need to cut and paste into other applications.

Posted By Renny Thomson I thought the forums were supposed to be "New and Improved"? To be honest, apart from the change to a set of lurid colours and the wider fields that dissapear off the edge of the screen and hide behind the text boxes, I cannot see where the improvements are. Sorry
