Can anyone advise me as to where I can get information on the safe design and construction of these pits to include pit wall loading and the jacking of vehicles over pits?

If possible avoid pits ! they are a right pain regarding covering them up to stop people falling in them and they create a "confined space" problem regarding petrol fumes, electric lighting and slippery oily steps into the pit ..but its up to you!
