Posted By Steve99Jones Hi Can anyone help?? I've been tasked with amending and developing our existing in-house asbestos surveying procedures so that they would comply with UKAS requirements for asbestos surveyors. Our procedures are already fairly comprehensive and I have a copy of the UKAS document RG8. However the problem I'm having is not knowing how the procedures should be presented and the level of detail (or not) that is required. If there is anyone out there who has already been through this process that could assist, I'd really appreciate it. Many thanks Steve

Posted By Dave Wilson I work for a UKAS acredited Asbestos Surveying / removal Management Training etc etc company and to be quite honest Steve if you do not know what is required to become UKAS accredited should you really be doing this, as it is a very expensive business to become UKAS accredited initially and annually, it is akin to having a full time Quality Manager and a Full time Technical Manager if you are going to survive the annual UKAS Audit. If you are a one man band have you considered NIACS or ABICS who will do this for you, I know it is initially expensive but will be a UKAS Standard soon, look at the ARCA and NIACS www for info.

Posted By Steve99Jones Thanks Dave, I am all to aware of the expense which our company is incurring, but it is felt that this is the route we should be taking, but as a small asbestos consultancy we want to be sure what we are producing is right, as we do not have any previous experience of UKAS or UKAS procedures, hence my initial posting. If anyone is able to provide any guidance it would be appreciated. Steve

Posted By Stuart Nagle The surveying procedures are all about complying with the standard, namely MHDS 100. the UKAS procedures are about trails of evidence in respect of the surveying process, the results obtained, the records relating to the surveys and the internal auditing processes to ensure that the surveys were carried out correctly. UKAS audit these systems and procedures to ensure the standards applicable have been met or exceeded. Stuart

Posted By Steve Cartwright Hi Steve Providing all your surveyors have passed the P402 Asbestos Bulk Sampling and Surveying course and you follow the procedures in MDH100 you should be ok. I can't remember exactly when but it was quite recent. A guy was successfully prosecuted for carrying Asbestos Surveys even though he had not done the P402. I think he was fined about £5000.00. Regards Steve

Posted By Steve Cartwright I made a typing error in my last response. I think it should be MHDS100 not MDH100.
