Posted By Paul Bellis What is the general view on the above leads, used in the workplace in a generally hard working factory environment, metal casing on wooden backboards. They have been constructed by a competent person and are subjected to combined inspection and test every 16 weeks, inspected before use etc. I cant seen to find anything in the regs to say they cant use them ( subject to a risk assessment of course... wet environments etc. if anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful Paul

Posted By Frank Hallett Paul Provided that you can demonstrate that they are suitable for the task and environment in which they will be used; that they have been constructed by persons who can be considered competent to do so; and that there is a thorough sytem of appropriate testing and examination; and that they conform to the requirements of the EaW; I cannot see any reason why not. As a guide to the level of possible standards etc you should ensure that the relevant parts of the IEE Regs are applied and give consideration to "borrowing" from Building Regs Approved Doc P [Yes, I know it applies to domestics but it does give some guidance on the level of competence required]. Over to you. Frank Hallett

Posted By Frank Hallett Paul I've just had a whizz through the Careers Forum after my previous response. This wouldn't have any connection with your post re recruitment agencies there would it? Frank Hallett

Posted By Paul Bellis No Frank not connected -but Im glad to say the leads are -by a competent person, its a site I am compiling a report on and it is just this one issue I was looking for guidance, thay are well made leads -and compliant as to testing inspection and certification, the assessent of use to which they are put needs to be reviewed, but I was just checking they are still allowed under the present Eaw regs. Interestingly a previous consultant had them also doing all the fixed appliances ie lathes , pillar drills wall heaters, wall mounted extractor fans etc etc under a combined nspection and test regime - tagging certification etc, theres tags everywhere, whilst a good idea, to occasionally to inspect to ensure they are maintained, bad advice such as putting them on such a fixed expensive schedule, can cost a firm a lot of money! - by the way if you know of any jobs.... Paul

Posted By Frank Hallett I didn't really doubt that you had the extension lead thing suitably controlled Paul. Sorry, I don't have any leads on jobs - I'm too busy being a live-wire on my own behalf. Frank Hallett
