Posted By Lord Lucan Anyone read the recent case: A company director has received a twelve month custodial sentence at Norwich Crown Court following the death of an employee at his paper recycling business - apparently according to the details on the HSE website - the director ignored the advice from a consultant he employed. When will they learn that good H&S is good business?

Posted By Frank Hallett There have been a steady run of fatalities in the Norfolk & Suffolk regions over the last 3 years, most of them involving Confined Spaces but Fire and CoSHH have also beeen high-profile! You will soon be reading about the latest which occurred about 3 weeks ago. Frank Hallett

Posted By E C I would be interested in finding out details of this case, any weblinks to it. This would be useful to highlight directors liability and duties.

Posted By J Knight http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/...land/norfolk/4250094.stm However, one article I read on this case said that he was the seventh director to go down for a breach of HASAWA. Set against 250 or so deaths at work for the last thirty years that gives us rough odds of around 1,000:1 (though of course not all deaths at work are the fault of the employer, let alone a named director) so maybe there is a need for new law, John
