Posted By Alan Gwynant a charity is run by a small management team of 6, and receive funds from a government agency. one of the 6 goes sick, and his work has to be done by some of the other members. It is a condition of the grant that any recruitment is sanctioned by the government agency giving the grant. a request to use some of the grant to employ part time help is rejected by the grant making body. As a result, one of the remaining members of the management team goes off sick due to stress arising from the extra duties that he has to undertake. could the government agency, having rejected the request, be held liable in part for the stress related illness?

Posted By Mark Talbot I don't think so. You used the word "has" a couple of times - the defendant would probably argue that the local mangement must reduce the need for the employee to stand in. Reduction of output would be a reasonable adjustment I would suggest.
