Posted By P.J.O'Callaghan Hello, I have just been appointed safety co-ordinator for an Electrical contractor and I am trying to do a risk assessment. I have been working with an engineering company and I have some experience in carrying out risks assessments for this area. The electrical area is relative new to me, whilst I understand the procedures carried out in doing an assessment I have never done this for electrical contracting, also this firm is envolved in carrying out repairs for the main electrical board. If some one can point me in the direction in identifying electrical hazards outside the obvious ones this would be much appreciated regards P.J.O" Callaghan

Posted By Dean Pugh I would recommend that you bring in a person with an electrical background to assist in this kind of risk assessment. As it stands, your posting is extremely vague, for example, you say the contractors are carrying out repairs to the main electrical board. What type of board are we talking about here? Is it a main LV Board that may contain bus couplers,Power Factor Correction unit,Mains ACB, Generator ACB,etc....the list goes on. The risks associated with these kinds of boards and their installations can be complex and as such, I would only recommend a person, with competency in an electrical background carrying out such an assessment.
