Hi
I am new to Health and Safety and am currently setting up the risk assessment process and am looking for support from the business. I have been asked to set up a detailed plan, including time allocations for completing inspections and risk assessments. To me this is a piece of string question as I have not been involved in any such project before so have no basis for estimating how long things will take. Any suggestions?

Prepare a yearly plan from scratch is not easy, but can be made simple.
Look at your operations and the need for the following -:
Risk Assessments (will include normal operations, maintenance & abnormal conditions; manual handling assessments, puwer, loler etc.)
Safety Inspections (split site in areas and do 1 or 2 a month and review periodically)
Safety Audits (on procedures & practices)
Incorporate safety training in a plan also. At this point allocate a time schedule of say 10 days to complete any of the above and allocate to different members of staff (who need basic training). Let the managers manage safety as well as other areas - its key to good safety standards.
Hope this helps. Regards

Hi Camillia,
Please remember to emphasise the review process. Many managers seem to think that risk assessment is something you do once then move on.
