Hi folks,
I have searched through the various threads but cannot find what I am after.
Can anyone suggest or even inform me if there is a cd that I can buy that will translate documents from English to other languages?
We have employees from varoius counteries and I need to get my hands on a cd that will assist in the translation of all of our documents and signs etc etc.

By CD I assume you mean software. There is software you can buy for this purpose called Systran, I don’t know what languages it supports and not having used it i can’t vouch for how good it is.
I’d be especially careful if you intend to translate stuff like operating procedures etc, what makes perfect sense in English may not translate into another language so well.

Even when you have a very good translator, things sometimes don't come out quite right. I had someone who did German at Oxford translate a bit at the bottom of a German drawing for me. They looked a bit perplexed and said, "Er, free from fat and peelings?!" and I immediately realised it was the standard phrase, "Free from grease and swarf"...

Jim,
For 'important' documents, I use a professional translation service to ensure we get it right. Its not too expensive at approx. £125 per 1000 words and gives huge peace of mind.
For notices/social/non critical stuff, we use the staff themselves as some of them have enough english to get by.

We use systrans for a first pass but every letter and report I write is corrected by my French secretary. (Corinne, if you are interested, but she is a tri-athlete so don't bother trying anything)
Systrans is pretty easy to use but MUST be corrected by a native.
