Please could somebody point me in the right direction regarding the legal requirements for having suitable schematic diagrams and regular testing/inspections of the electrical distribution systems on a work premises.
The above is mentioned in various Regulations such as the Building Regulations 2000 Electrical safety Approved document P, however, the regulations appears not to cover stand alone work premises and in the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the schematic diagrams and regular testing/inspections only applies to mines.
Is there a requirement and if so where can I find it in black & white as I seem to be going round and round in circles.

The requirement comes from BS7671. (requirements for electrical installations)
Regs require drawings, charts and schedules etc to provide information about the installation.
On larger jobs, these usually take the form of the drawings produced by the designer of the installation, with the charts and schedules originating from the final pages of the electrical installation certificate.
Testing.
Periodic inspection and testing,Again from BS7671.
Domestic premises - 10 yearly
Commercial premises - 5 yearly
Licensed premises (cinemas, theatres etc) - annually or as required by Licensing authority.
Construction sites - think its 3 monthly - need to check.
BS7671 would be the best practice guide, refered to in the EAWR.
AD-P only covers domestic properties.

Its in BS7671 IEE wiring regulations.
You should have test carried out at a maximum of five yearly intervals.
That means that tests should be carried out once every five years. Do you want me to quote the exact regulation ref?

If it’s not too much trouble Fran, the exact regulation ref would be great but I am going to get hold of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) too. You wouldn't know which organisation enforces the IEE Wiring Regulations so I can approach them regarding compliance?

Here is the information you require!
It is based on occupancy,
student accomodation is tested on change of tenant
swimming pools tested yearly
pubs, clubs etc need public entertainment license which is yearly
domestic house can be max of 10 years
Chapter 34 and 74
The info is found in Chapter 34 and 74 guidance note 3 of the IEE wiring regulations
This is not mandatory just advisory it is only electricity at work regs that are mandatory.
Institute of incorporated and electrical engineers (IEE) is who you would contact.
contact either the NICEIC or the ECA

Sorry to bring up this old topic but saves me posting a new one, having read the information about that I too were looking for, I do have an extra question.
A site dealing with flammable liquids, lower COMAH, with only Zone 2 areas - In these zoned areas is there a requirement under DSEAR, IEE or COMAH to have more regular testing of electrical and fixed wiring installations.
Been trawling through all the legislation (apart from IEE as I dont not have a copy, its on order) and cannot find a requirement for annual, monthly testing.
I seem to think there should be an monthly visual test, 3 monthly inspection and annual detailed inspection. But dont know where I have got this from.
