We have some employees who take sleeping tablets or antidepressants. They are expected to drive 150+ miles a day. Doctors won't give us a specific guideline on what is safely acceptable because of "individual tolerance". Symptoms are drownsiness, irritability etc. We always request G.P reports in these cases, but they do tend to sit on the fence when we ask specifics ilke "are they fit to do their job?" Apart from mileage reduction and promotion of regular breaks, can anyone advise on further action or any useful sites?
Many thanks

In short, it depends specifically on the dosage and drugs being used. I have some experience of dealing with this, so if you care to email me directly with this information I will help if possible.

If you know the drug(s)name(s) you could try the British National Formulary website at BNF.org/

It’s a lot more complex than ‘dosage and drugs being used’ Dave. The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic can be greatly influenced by many factors such genetics, hepatic & renal function, other drugs, diet etc. etc. Even smoking one cigarette can have such an effect on certain drugs metabolism. This is probably why the Doctors can not give Lorraine a straight answer.

In regard to the drowsiness angle, you could consider using the Epworth sleepiness scale [Google will find you lots of sites].
