Posted By Peter Donnison Rearding 3 point contact with a ladder when loading-out a roof with roof tiles. Is it acceptable or should we always insist on a mechanical device to assist with loading? It seems to me that the hand on the ladder is not always in effective contact. Any comment?

Posted By christopher harris I think you should always insist on mechanical loading eg. from loadall, or if limited for space an incline hoist. If you have no alternative because of space or you are patching a roof, roof tilers used to carry the tiles on their heads, leaving both hands free to climb the ladder.

Posted By Chris Pope Roofing causes numerous bad backs so I feel that only small jobs where there is not enough work for a bumpa hoist should be loaded by hand. There is a case for the old gin wheel and rope - how much does that cost to install against the whole cost of access on a small job - not much
