Posted By Ian Bennett Since the banning the use of mobile phones whilst driving came into effect, new technology giving total "handsfree" is commonplace. Has anyone assessed or seen risk comparisons between the various types of "handsfree" kits. We have banned "handsfree" in our Policy but I am reviewing the Policy and would like some advice on the new sets. Basically are there any kits out there that are safer to use now? Thanks in anticipation

Posted By J Knight Without wanting to go over and over old ground, the problem with hands-free, indeed with any type of phone, seems to be to do with distraction rather than the use of hands, John

Posted By Robert K Lewis JK Here we are again - Is this the 15 minute distraction window rule once more from Australia? I wonder when this one will go away. I think there has to be responsibility on drivers to terminate any call from anybody if he recognises that there are traffic hazards to which the driver cannot respond. Still I would shoot the idiot in the Rolls this morning on the M62 at the M606 juction who was driving in nose to tail traffic with his mobile in his hand and attached to his ear. Only needed two lanes though to accommodate his wanderings. Bob

Posted By J Knight Hi Rob, Not the australia one, but something I read about a hwile ago which was looking at cognitive stuff. I don't suppose it will go away since its something people palinly want to do, though speaking personally I treasure the phone free times when I'm driving, John

Posted By Ian Bennett As I drive round I see a lot of "professinal drivers" using Bluetooth headsets. So can I justify continuing the ban on all mobiles including those with Bluetooth etc. As these people all have the facility to use these gadgets in their private lives.

Posted By Red Ones RoSPA and several other bodies have significant evidence to suggest the use of phones is a danger handsfree or not. As a result I would feel uncomfortable proposing any policy other than an outright ban on use in company vehicles. If the business cannot manage without immediate contact then surely it is time to review staffing levels!
