Posted By Neil Dyson Is there some way or method to check if the seal is intact on microwaves, this check not done by the firm which does the PAT testing, or would it be easier just to replace them. As there are six on site i wondered if there was a kit. regards Neil Dyson

Posted By SteveS Neil, I don't know how valid this is but one method I was told of many years ago is to use a small fluorescent tube. With the microwave running move the tube around the door seal holding it about an inch away. Any stray microwaves will cause the fluorescent tube to glow. No glow = good seal. However, what harm this may cause, if the seal did leak, to the person conducting the test I have no idea. Steve

Posted By Mark Talbot Go and look on the RS Components website/books. They have microwave detecting meters. From memory they are specifically designed for this job. I would love to see your enforcement officer's face if they were shown the flourecent tube method :-) Brave of you Steve :-) E&OE (spelling)
