Well Friday is here and I am struggling to find any guidance on the provision of life rings around lakes. I’ve googled and even done a search on the forums without much luck.
Is anyone aware of any clear guidance on this? I’m looking for something to give me a clue how many rings are advisable for a fishing / boating lake environment?

I've found the RoSPA publication "Safety at Inland Water Sites - Operational Guidelines" ISBN 1 85088 092 1 to be a great help when assessing risk and deciding on control measures.

thanks for the reference document, as I am needing to know quite quickly, ordering the book isnt really an option. My personal feeling is that from a risk perspective I need a couple of rings. I would just like to know there is clear guidance i can refer to support the reccomendations.

Other than at canal sides I still fail to see any use for life rings. They are too heavy to throw any distance and are actually designed to be dropped in adjacent to the victim. The throwing lines with attached bouyancy aid are much better.
My analysis therefore suggests the fewer the better in most circumstances - they are decorative and seek to make people feel that a proper assessment has been done.
Sorry but have seen someone hit on the head by one of these being thrown, a young child, and it made rescue more difficult.
