Posted By gburgess I am looking at writing a CDM policy for my organisation. If any of you have existing policies in place I would be grateful if you would be kind enough to let me take a look at them so I am not starting from scratch. Regards Greg

Posted By jimmst212 Hi, As the previous post said, what type of CDM policy do you require. Is it a construction phase plan a pre tender health and safety plan or a more specific policy on how your company will comply with the regulations??? I am happy to forward any of the mentioned doccuments just let me know a little more. Regards, Jim

Posted By Mal Shiels Hi Greg, i am going to assume Greg that you are a design based practice and thats why you need a CDM policy. If you follow the link below and go to design guides there is a guidance sheet G10.001 which deals specifically with what a design practice CDM policy should look like and comprise of. http://www.safetyindesign.org/index.htm I also check quite a few practice policies during competency checks Greg and if you facny a chat with some further advice (professional to professional, before anybody thinks i'm looking for fee work!!)then just get in touch, best of luck with your policy. Regards Malcolm

Posted By Robert K Lewis Greg The problem is really that setting out a policy with the range of activities your government undertakes is not as simple as it appears. The simple route is to ensure that committments are made within the targets of each department to ensure that the legislation is complied with and for them to detail which aspects apply to them and how they are to be managed. If you would like to email me then we could have a discussion off-line when I understand the direction you need to go. Bob

Posted By gburgess Thanks for the responses so far. I work for the Isle of Man Government. CDM has only been in place on the island for twelve months although the spirit of CDM has been used for a while in certain areas. Within my Department we act as each of the roles under CDM for some schemes and will partly use consultants for other schemes (We have client divisions, a design division and a works division so on most schemes who acts under role is fairly clear). I am looking to produce a policy which clearly sets out how each of the Divisions will meet their responsibilities when acting as client, planning supervisor, designer or principal contractor and also how to best manage consultants when they are used to fulfil certain roles . Although I have said a policy it will be a fairly practical document which can be followed to ensure all requirements under CDM are met. I was really looking for examples of policies which other organisations have produced so that I would get a feel for what style, lay out, information to include etc. would be most appropriate for my organisation. I hope this clarifies what I am after and why. Regards Greg
