Does anybody know a method of cleaning safety harnesess?
I appreciate dirt, oil etc... can degregate the integrity of the webbing material.
We work in a fairly dirty environment and replacing the harness every time it got dirty would mean we'd be changing them every five minutes!
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you

Hi Jason
You should seek advice from the manufacturer or supplier
This is the guidance we have been given
Webbing/Slings/Lanyards and Ropes
• Dirty webbing etc. may only be washed in water no hotter than 30C and if necessary with mild detergent suitable for delicate fabrics.
• Do not wash with a pressure hose.
• Allow it to dry in a dark well-ventilated place and away from any direct source of heat.
• Webbing etc. that has been wet and then dried may shrink very slightly.
Care of Metallic Products
1. Wash as for webbing etc. but dry it with a suitable cloth afterwards. Adding a small drop of oil to the mechanism pin and/or spring ensures better operation.
Storage/Transport
2. It is recommended that a hardwearing moisture resistant bag is used to store/transport the equipment to guard it against cuts, tears, abrasion, damage and contamination from chemicals and heat.
Maintenance
3. Keep the equipment clean, dry and loosely packed in a well-ventilated place away from direct light, extreme temperatures and corrosive or aggressive substances.
Hope this helps Dave

During training presented by a 'leading edge' provider of equipment and systems, we were advised that in aggressive or dirty environments, it would be acceptable to cut a hole in overalls, jacket or shirt, at the location where the dorsal ring will protrude and to wear it over the harness and reduce the amount of dirt getting to the harness.
