Hi All,
Need a bit of advice for getting some co-operation from our M.D. with regards the car park for our factory.
They have taken away our original hard standing car park for storage use and all employees are now required to park on what can only be described as wasteland. It is cobbled with varying sizes of limestone rocks, causing a slip / trip hazards and there is no layout which means that cars are practically dumped anywhere causing a high traffic / pedestrian accident risk. Not to mention how filthy your car and clothes get from the muddy limestone rocks.
I have carried out a risk assessment identifying all the hazards but cannot get them to outweigh the cost of tarmaccing and laying out the car park against the potential accidents. I have quoted HASAWA acess and egress issues, etc. but to no avail. All I can now rely on is for Senior Managers to have a bit of respect for workers (which they obviously don't!).
Any offers of what to quote / threaten with next?
Thanks,
Carrie

Is there sufficient lighting in the area also?
and do you have any diasled staff or even visitors ? If so, are they also expected to park there ?
Could try that angle?

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a case in the last 2 or so years where the court decided that the car park is not covered so far as access or egress to teh place of work, if it is remote from the place of work

Does the employer have a responsibility to provide parking for private cars?

We have a "front car park" which is where visitors or any disabled visitors / disabled workers would park (this is also where the management park!!).
It is us lowly other employees who have to use the "marsh" which is on our site but to the rear of the factory buildings. There is lighting which lights the car park but isn't great around the perimiter which is where you try to walk to keep off the stones and away from the cars coming and going.
Sounds like maybe I don't have a case to work on though :-/
Thanks for replies
Carrie
