Calling all you scaffolding experts.
We are in the process of having scaffolding erected on our project (Approx 30-40 meters high) and I have been asked if this is safe and if there are any further measures needed for scaffolding this high.
I know that there used to be restrictions on mobile tower scaffolds (Base dimensions) although I believe that has now changed and we are now asked to consult manufactures guidelines.
I have asked the scaffolding contractor to demonstrate how he determines the height, what precautions are needed such as bracing requirements, tie in points etc. However, the company is an Indian company (I am working in Qatar) and they do not seem to have any answers to this.
The scaffolding erection and materials is of good quality but would like information regarding requirements if the scaffolding is going to go over a specific height.
Thanks all in advance for you help.

Hi Chris,
The basic guidelines for scaffold are:
• Only two working platforms. One working platform shall be loaded with the full service load and one adjacent platform with 50% of the service load.
• Lift heights should normally be 2.0m.
• The recommended tie pattern for all scaffolds is 4m centres vertically, and every other bay horizontally. This applies to unclad, debris-netted and sheeted scaffolds.
• Facade bracing should be fitted full height to the outside standards every five bays.
• Ledger braces, generally fitted in alternate bays, may be omitted on any two adjacent working lifts.
• Where scaffolds are greater than 8m high, plan bracing shall be fitted as one braced panel every ten bays and every four lifts.
• Ties connecting the scaffold to the facade should be capable of transmitting lateral forces unless other provisions are made.
In the UK the NASC has published a document entitled TG20:05 which states that all scaffold must be properly designed, unless it conforms to some ‘basic’ designs contained within that document.
Hope that this helps
Richard
