Posted By Sean Nuttall Following on from the recent upset to some of the ex Tech SPs following the grading changes, I took some advice from a learn'ed chap within the institute and have decided to start getting involved with the local branches in the NW. Attending my first meeting this week was a start. Now what appeared to be obvious was that there was a distinct lack of "younger" and by default probably ex Tech SP members at that meeting. I might be wrong and this thread is not intended to turn into a debate of the right or wrong of that statement however unarguably there was a high proportion of senior and respected members in attendance. What this post is intended to be, is a request for other Tech IOSH members and those individuals who are currently training to achieve that grade and who haven't previously been involved with the branches to get in touch with me via the e mail function with a view to discussing how to get more of our membership level to attend and actually become involved in what is as much our institute as the more senior members Just to clarify this is not a call for people to attend meetings just to vent their spleens or cause mayhem in what is a well established and well run branch; It is a request for some new young blood to get involved from the Tech level. I personally would welcome any interest from any individuals within the construction industry so that I am not on my own. If you are interested in getting involved and keeping me company then please get in touch with me via e mail or post on here.

Posted By Alan Hoskins Hi Sean, Not directly relevant, but at our last meeting of the Wales Branch (mostly South in this case) we had a pretty even split of CMIOSH/MIOSH and Tech IOSH. Alan

Posted By Sean Nuttall Alan, am sure there is a split at Manchester as well but what I am after is the younger guys of tech level who have not been involved in the branches so that we can in effect form a support group for those wishing to further their status within the institute and our careers within H and S. Whilst nobody would doubt the benefits of mentoring from senior and experienced members and am sure that would be available; it is beneficial to have people around you of similar status and experience. Hope that makes sense

Posted By Paul Craythorne Alan, Just wondering how you identify the split at your meetings between CMIOSH, MIOSH and Tech IOSH? Is it the number of grey hairs and wrinkles that denotes seniority or perhaps the meeting reflects the old comedy sketch starring Messrs Cleese, Barker and Corbett? Just a bit of light heartedness at Christmas. No offence meant to those with grey hairs and wrinkles or those with an uncanny resemblance to the aforementioned comedy stars. Posted By Alan Hoskins Well Paul, I thought it would be obvious! The CMIOSHs were all wearing their new badges (not!). Actually, the Chairman asked for a show of hands because the subject being covered included the new IOSH structure and how people progressed through it. There still seems to be an element of confusion among many members... Alan (not white but a little grey and not-too-wrinkly for my age)
