Can anybody tell me if legislation differs between Scotland and England and Wales relating to Fire Safety. Particularly relating to nursing homes or similar institutions.

Patrick, my understanding is as follows…

In England and Wales the new law coming into force is called:

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO). It comes into force on 1st April 2006. It has a bigger emphasis on fire prevention in all non domestic premises.

In Scotland there is the Fire (Scotland) Act. Which is fully inforce with the exception of part three, which is fire safety. This is due to come into force later this year.

In Scotland there is a consultation document out for fire safety in care homes as part of part three.

Hope this is of use…e-mail if you need other info.

James
