Can anyone clarify the difference between this regulation and the Pressure System Safety Regs? I assumed that the regs were aimed at lower pressure systems and would therefore cover the small DIY air compressors but I see now that vessels up to 10000 bar litres are covered in cat A.
Am I correct in assuming that these regs cover most air compressors that would commonly be found in workshops? Consequently there would be no statutory testing required.

The Simple Pressure Vessel (Safety) Regulations deal with the supply of equipment and are sister regulations to the Pressure Equipment Regulations. SPV's contain air or nitrogen between 0.5 and 30 bar and are not exposed to heat. Outside of this, pressure equipment must be supplied in accordance with PER.

Either way SPV(S)R and PER require the supplier to categorise the equipment and assess it for conformity against the ESR's contained in the regulations. Depending on the category this may entail third party inspection and CE marking.

The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations address the use of pressure equipment and address the need for using and maintaining equipment in a safe condition. Written schemes of examination, records of inspection etc. etc.
